Somebody S2 E1: Welcome to the some-stay

Somebody is back for season 2! If you haven’t watched Season 1, I strongly recommend it. Somebody is a reality show on Mnet that brings together 10 dancers of various genres to dance with each other – and possible form love connections on the way. We know from Season 1 that couples can form (yay Joori and Seung Hyuk) so we are going into this with a positive attitude!

The first episode is a intro into each dancer. They give a short intro and actually give a short dance in front of them.

Hye Soo got the most first impression votes. Her genre is Korean Modern Dance. It’s no mystery that she got the most attention as she gives off the sweet, cute lovely vibes all at once. She’s very elegant in her dances as she twirls to IU’s Through the Night. And there are definitely at least two guys that fall for her hard with these moves.

Yena is the next to go. Initially, the response from the viewers were pretty negative. She revealed that it’s been some time since she performed ballet (she dance to Somewhere Only We Know) – and not going to lie, when you compare her moves to Ye Rin’s it’s a big gap. She also is not the friendliest with the girl contestants. Yes, we know it’s not a “make friends” show but when she was done with her dance, she pointed out how Hye Soo was in her spot. There is no denying it – she literally said “That spot is mine” and not in a tone of respect. Girl, this is not how you want to portray yourself.

Hot girl So Ri is up next. She bounces her hips to Look What You Made Me Do by Taylor Swift and the guys don’t know where to look. She’s pretty well known in the K-pop industry. She is still an active idol and holds a strong fandom. Although the oldest of the group, I think this is a very brave and solid move for her to not just showcase her bangin’ moves but find love as well.

Ye Rim is up as the last and I can’t help but say that she is my favorite. Not only because she is stunning in her outfit but you can just tell she is genuinely sweet and absolutely amazing at ballet – she’s done performances overseas and is actually well known in Korea. She’s also nicknamed Thomas the train because of her beautiful smile! As she is literally a flower dancing to She by Elvis, I actually noticed it wasn’t just my mouth that was open at the end of the performance! P.S. If you remember Dae Han from Season 1, she’s close with him as she dances with him on a regular basis!

Jae Yeob is actually the first to go but third in the first impression votes. His genre is hip hop as you can guess from his style but what blew me away was his crew – I mean, they’re named Hype Up. How can you not be hyped! I like how interactive they are with the performance. Was I the only one yelling, ‘nope’ and ‘yup’ during the song when they told us to?

Next to go is Jun Hyuk, and you guessed it, he is one of my favorites. His moves captured my attention right away (can you guess that my favorite genre is modern?) and I think he’s a real gentleman in this episode. I hope that he makes a genuine connection with someone – my guess is that he’s the type of person on a date to notice the small things and is affectionate when appropriate. Of note he danced to Speechless by Dan + Shay.

Woo Tae is the guy who gets the most first impression votes. His dance is with his crew to the song Stay with Me (acoustic version) and then he did a break dance. I actually couldn’t stop laughing in the middle because did anyone notice how all his crew members had blonde hair? They are all also shorter than him so it was pretty funny.

Do Yoon is the last to go but honestly, you have my heart man. This guy is so silly and cute in the best way. He got last in the first impression votes but makes light of the situation and doesn’t let that deter him from performing his best. In his intro, he states that he’s the type of person to go all in and he wants to find someone to lean on – which I found a great segway to his dance to Good Day by Melomance.

The last part of the episode is how all the dancers get together for dinner. Tension rises as the guys and girls show interest in each other. Do Yoon is at the end of the table and is visibly nervous as he drinks about a liter of water, and when he does say something I’m cheering for him! He is brave in asking if people’s first impression changed after watching people perform (and then maybe it was the way it was edited but barely no one answered him!)

On each episode, everyone sends their ‘some’ music. This is music that is meaningful for them and is sent anonymously. For today’s episode, it’s while they are at the dinner table.

The signals are as follows:

  • Ye Rim to Woo Tae
  • Woo Tae to Hye Soo
  • Jae Yeob to Hye Soo
  • So Ri to Jun Hyuk
  • Yena to Jun Hyuk
  • Hye Soo to Jae Yeob
  • Do Yoon to Ye Rim
  • Jun Hyuk to Ye Rim
